Definitions of Terms
Pediatric Surgery - Surgery performed on a patient 16 years or less.Pediatric patients are further subdivided into specific age groups
Fetal - Still in utero.
=Premature infant - < 37 wk. gestational age.
=Neonate - Newborn, birth to one month.
Infant - Up to about 1 year.
Toddler - 1 - 3 years.
Preschooler - 3 - 6 years.
School age child - 6 - 11 years.
Adolescent - 11 - 16 years.
